General Information

The FUToURISM project is about the development of tourist regions in an integrated and sustainable way. The project is supported by the European Programme INTERREG III C, which aims at promoting an interregional co-operation between regional and other public authorities across the entire European territory and neighbouring countries. FUToURISM concentrates on the exchange of good experiences and practices between the involved regions in order to elaborate new common working methods for sustainable tourism development. The project involves five regions and every region is responsible for the implementation of a miniproject.

The miniprojects are as follows: “Green Europe” with the responsible partner from France; “HRD Tourism” with the responsible partner from Ireland; “Best Health” with the responsible partner from Slovenia; “CULToURISM” with the responsible partner from Malta. Finally, the University of Thessaly is responsible for the miniproject “PARKoMOTION” which aims at the promotion of tourist activities in natural parks and protected areas and reserves.

Under the framework of each miniproject every partner is responsible for collecting info and data in each region and performing an analysis of the current situation on the specific themes. For the purpose of fact finding mission for each miniproject, the University of Thessaly has accommodated delegations from France and Slovenia in March (26 to 30), from Malta in April (23 to 26) and from Ireland in May (8 to 10). All the delegations have interviewed different agencies and organizations in order to fulfil the miniprojects’ requirements. Some of these agencies are the following: Info Center of Volos, Hot Springs Smokovou, Production Facility of Traditional Sweets of Farsala, Horse Back Riding Club of Fitokou, Female Agricultural Collaboration of Pteleos, Pirgos Mantania, Camping “Hellas”, Silk Museum of Nea Ionia, Archaeological Museum of Volos, Historical and Folklore Museum of Volos, Meteora – Religious Heritage, Center for Education and Training of the Prefecture of Magnesia, Municipal Organization for Social Intervention, Development Agency of Pelion.
